This is an interesting page that strikes a good balance between presenting possible nutritional aspects of ADHD while also reporting the fact that these dietary connections are not, scientifically speaking, particularly strong. As the parent of a child with ADHD, diet modifications seem like a reasonable thing to at least try, as long as you don't rule out other treatments in the process. As a parent of any child, of course, you should encourage a healthy diet. One thing I found especially interesting: an elimination diet seemed to help about 30% of young children, but had no effect on adults. Call me a skeptic, but I suspect this is because children's symptoms are monitored by parents, who, after all really want to see an improvement, while adult symptoms are generally monitored by the patients themselves, who can more accurately determine if there's really an improvement.
