This is an incredibly thought-provoking page. We've all heard of the gifted child who gets bored with schoolwork and may act up or lose interest -- is it ADHD or simply boredom? Well, of course, it depends. The comparison of ADHD symptoms to gifted characteristics is certainly interesting, though, from what I understand, some of the comparisons are inaccurate. For example, the checklist seems to imply that the child does not have ADHD if his inattention or hyperactivity is less pronounced when he is engaged in something that interests him. Well, that seems logical enough, I suppose, but almost all other resources that cover this aspect of the disorder specifically mention that children with ADHD can indeed focus extremely well on things that interest them, and in fact they may "hyperfocus" on these things. I think this article provides an interesting and unique take on ADHD, but I worry that it may cause some parents to ignore their child's symptoms and thus delay a correct diagnosis.
